Hello Ted,

Welcome back. Afghanistan is certainly an ideal place to find old beads. Some of the oldest beads in the world can be found in this vicinity. Unfortunately though I must tell you that most of your's are modern beads that imitate ancient beads.

They are briefly described as follows, by the order of the pictures in your link:

1. These may have some age, possibly the shell, but at least some are newly made.
2. Uncertain about these, but they appear to ne modern.
3. The glass beads are modern, the brass beads have some age to them, possibly early to middle 20th century.
4. These are newly made seals, imitating ancient rolling seals
5. These are all modern.
6. These are newly made beads imitating the very popular d'Zi beads usually from Tibet
7. These are all modern.
8. These are new versions of ancient Chinese jade beads.
9. There may be a few vintage glass beads here but most are new.

I am sorry, but the value on the whole would not be terribly significant, other than as a keepsake from a trip to a dangerous area, in more ways than one.

I was in the U.S. Army 35 years ago, during the Viet Nam war, We are glad that you made it back home with beads in your hands.
