In my experience this is also from India but furnace-wound by a different industry, and what you describe as "etched" stripes are created by adding a dusting of white ground glass laid out in stripes and melted onto the surface while the bead is molten.
Furnace-wound beads have large holes and sometimes a black residue from the iron mandrel.
